We spotlighted Beau Motlop Pennefarther, one of the artists whose designs regularly feature on our designs. With a rich and diverse background, Beau Pennefather Motlop was born in Auckland, Aotearoa but grew up in Cairns (Gimuy) in the tropic and lush surrounds of Far North Queensland. His Indigenous heritage stems from multiple cultures and tribes including the Jirrabal tribe (Aboriginal), the Wagedoegam tribe (Torres Strait Island), Ngapuhi (New Zealand) as well as lineages in Scotland. Inspired by the natural landscape of his home and from his bloodlines, Beau has always had a keen interest in art and Indigenous culture, with his key focus centred around the ocean and marine wildlife that inhabits it.

We took the liberty of compiling some of our most-loved winter warmers to keep you cosy during this cold snap into one neat blog post. We featured hoodies, beanies, socks, and everything in between. Head on over to the blog to get the full run down and see what grabs your eye!

Next, provided some information on a new Indigenous-led education initiative. The Wonnarua Nation Aboriginal Corporation (WNAC) and the Institute for Positive Psychology and Education (IPPE) at the Australian Catholic University (ACU) have collaborated to introduce two education initiatives, Deadly Home Reading and Deadly Futures. These programs aim to empower Aboriginal children enrolled in kindergarten, as well as those in years three and four.

In the spirit of all-things Indigenous art, we were excited to share details on Service Australia’s new feature artworks by Indigenous artists, Jasmine Bennett and Glen Mackie. Through their unique techniques and designs inherited from their families, they have crafted artwork that symbolises progress and embodies Services Australia’s commitment to enhancing service delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clientele.

Finally, highlighted some community events for our South East, and Far North Queensland audiences to get involved in - we invited our readers in Far North Queensland to get amongst the 13th annual Cairns Indigenous Art Festival. The CAIF showcases fashion, performance art, weaving demonstrations, painting and more in celebration of Queensland’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait cultures and people. The CIAF has become a global platform for Australian and international institutions to curate their collections. It's a game-changer for artists as significant commissions have sprung from this incredible event, enabling them to proudly showcase their rich culture to the world.

While our Gold Coast residents can prepare to be enthralled by an evening of pure entertainment with Deadly Hearts Festival. This intimate gathering is a must-attend for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the talent of some of the best Indigenous artists in the country. You’ll see sets from Budjerah, Tia Gostello and Jem Cassar-Daley.

Head over to our blog to read more about these events, including locations, dates and ticket prices.

Stay tuned for more inspiring stories and engaging events that celebrate the beauty, resilience, and creativity of Indigenous cultures.
