A Week's Journey

Welcome back, everyone! It's time to take a moment and reflect on the exciting week we've had here at edmradyo. Let's dive into our weekly recap and see what made this week so special.

To kick off the week, we launched a buy one, get one 50% off sale on all of our polo shirts, excluding our NAIDOC range. It’s been a perfect opportunity to update your wardrobe with our stylish and comfortable polo shirts while supporting Indigenous artists with your purchase.

Calling all nurses and medical professionals! This week we shone a spotlight on our range of scrubs. Say goodbye to dull scrubs and embrace our bright selection of unisex scrub tops. Designed for the real world of patient care, these scrubs are made with moisture-wicking and odour-resistant polyester, perfect for those busy long shifts. With thoughtful features like side-hem splits for comfort and plenty of pockets to store essentials, our scrubs are not just practical but also pieces of art.

In the realm of news and current affairs, we provided our readers with coverage on the primary schools in New South Wales who have taken commendable strides to provide Indigenous children with an inclusive and empowering learning experience. Over 2,200 schools across the state have implemented initiatives such as cultural awareness training for staff and incorporating Indigenous perspectives into educational planning. It's heartening to see efforts being made to celebrate First Nations experiences and histories.

Additionally, we highlighted the amazing work of Saltwater Eco Tours, founded by Torres Strait Islander man Simon Thornalley. Operating in Mooloolaba on Kabi Kabi/Gubbi Gubbi country, Saltwater Eco Tours offers an authentic Indigenous cultural experience with stories, traditions, and culture shared by the Local Traditional Owners.

We also had the pleasure of introducing the talented contemporary Indigenous artist Joel Sam, whose designs often feature across edmradyo’s apparel. Joel’s linocut prints showcase the captivating sea creatures of the Torres Strait region. His artistic journey is deeply rooted in his heritage and is a testament to the cultural inspiration he draws from his home.

Now, let's talk about our weekly best sellers! For the young ones, the 'Medicine Leaves' kid's singlet featuring artwork by Gamilaraay woman and artist Karla McGrady was a popular choice. The 'Oyster' men's dress shirt, with its bold and vivid design of oyster shells, became a favourite for festival-goers and weekend fashion enthusiasts. And for those looking for practicality and cultural significance, the 'My Old People (NAIDOC 2023)' stainless steel vacuum water bottle by Karla McGrady offered both style and functionality.

Finally,  we highlighted some community events happening around South-East Queensland: The MMEIC 2023 NAIDOC Community Day invites the whole community to celebrate together. WorkUP Queensland is hosting a crucial conversation on cultural safety for Indigenous individuals. The Indigenous Art Program 2023 offers a guided walking tour of the mesmerising exhibition "Reflections – A reflection of Brisbane's waterways." And for those interested in craftsmanship, the Clay & Seed Jewellery Making Workshop is a fantastic opportunity to create unique jewellery using First Nations string making techniques and native seeds.
